Step Escalation

To configure a Process Step to escalate to another Step when it isn't completed by the deadline, set the following Process Step fields:

  • Escalation Only: This step is skipped and used only by another step that exceeded the task deadline.
  • Escalate to Step: If the deadline for a task created by this step passes, select the step to which it should escalate.
  • Task Deadline: The deadline in hours by which this task must be completed. The start of the task is when the task was created and the end date is computed based on this value.

Step Escalation Workflow

Note: A process might contain multiple escalation steps.
  1. Step A is a task with a task deadline.
  2. Step A has an Escalate to Step set to Step A2.
  3. When you complete or approve the Step A task:
    1. The system skips Step A2.
    2. The Process invokes Step B, if applicable.
  4. If you complete or approve the task by the time the deadline for Step A arrives:
    1. The system marks Step A as complete.
    2. The Process initiates Step A2.
    3. You must complete or approve Step A2 before the process invokes Step B, if applicable.
