Add an Employer

You can add employers. Most organizations have one employer, but you can track multiple employers, such as the church, school, RE department, and office staff.
Tip: You should add multiple employers if you track organizations with different federal, state, or local ID numbers.
  1. On the Payroll tab, click Employer.
  2. At the top, click Add Employer.
  3. Enter information about the employer.
  4. In the navigation pane, click Tax ID Numbers, and enter the employer's tax ID information.
    • Federal ID Number—Enter the employer's federal tax ID number.
    • SUTA ID Number, Rate, and Wage Limit—State Unemployment Tax (SUTA) is a tax paid by the employer. For example, an employer may be required to pay .84% on each employee's wages up to $7,000. If you are not liable for SUTA taxes, enter 0 for the Rate and Wage Limit.
    • SDIF/UC ID Number, Rate, and Wage Limit—State Disability Insurance Fund/Unemployment Compensation (SDIF/UC) is a tax paid by the employee for disability and unemployment. This is usually a percentage of the employee's wages up to a specified annual wage limit.
    • State ID Number and Name (for W-2s)—Enter the state tax ID number and name to print on W-2s. If you have employees that work in different states, enter the additional state ID numbers and names in the grid. Also enter the liability account number and name that will hold the taxes until they are paid.
Note: Enter a different liability account for each state in the grid. The liability accounts must already be set up in the Chart of Accounts window.
    • Local Tax ID and Name (for W-2s)—Enter the local tax ID number and name to print on W-2s. If you have employees that work in different localities, enter the additional local ID numbers and names in the grid. Also enter the liability account number and name that will hold the taxes until they are paid.
Note: Enter a different liability account for each locality in the grid. The liability accounts must already be set up in the Chart of Accounts window.
  5. In the navigation pane, click Tax Options, and make a selection for W-3 Kind of Employer.
  6. At the top, click Save.
