Family Positions

More than just a place in the family.

You can create additional choices for the Family Position drop-down list field, seen when people update their own profiles or when you add/edit them.

By default, the choices include Head, Spouse, Child, and Other. But you may want to track extra positions such as "grandparent," "godparent," or "guardian." Once created, you can rearrange the positions to determine how they are ordered for users.

Primary positions like head and spouse are important because, with them, come certain website permissions. A primary family member can change a child's profile page, for instance, or update the family phone number and address. Only primaries can share giving. Only children, on the other hand, can be in multiple families. There are other abilities and restrictions, as noted throughout this guide, that hinge on someone's family position.

You must be an administrator to do this.

  2. On the Family Positions tab, click Add Primary Position, Add Child Position, or Add Other Position.
  3. Enter the label name.
  4. Click Save.

Reorder Family Positions

Change the order of family positions in the selection list.

You must be an administrator to do this.

  1. In the top-left corner, click your ministry hub then Realm. Then click Profiles > Settings.
  2. On the Family Positions tab, click just left of the field you want to move.
  3. Click-and-drag the field to its new position, and release it. This order determines the order of the drop-down selections on the user's profile page.
  4. Click Save.

Delete Family Positions

Delete any family positions that you no longer need.

You must be an administrator to do this.

  1. In the top-left corner, click your ministry hub then Realm. Then click Profiles > Settings.
  2. On the Family Positions tab, point to a position.
    Note:

You can only delete fields that your church added. The predefined positions of "primary", "child", and "other" cannot be deleted but can be edited.

  3. Click the ellipsis icon then Delete.
The field is deleted; there is no confirmation request.
