Responses
An overview of how MinistryPlatform managers responses, including their display, tracking, follow-up procedures, response fields and what they mean, and how to add responses from several places in the Platform.
- No matter how it's added, responses display under . The Responses page holds information about the participant and the opportunity and provides a place to track the response's follow up.
- Responses to a specific opportunity display in the opportunity's Responses tab.
- We recommend you train anyone responsible for an opportunity in how your church wants to handle and follow up with responses. Once you add a Response Follow-Up to a response, the most recent follow-up date displays on many of the views on the Responses page. This way, anyone can quickly view the last time someone updated various responses.
- For responses added through Opportunity Finder, MinistryPlatform assigns a Response record to the default contact if it can't match the respondent's first and last name with a current contact's first and last name and either a phone number or email address the system. When this happens, we generally recommend that you reassign the default contact to a real record. If the person doesn't have a record in the Platform, use the Add/Edit Family Tool to enter them and then assign the response accordingly. Be sure to assign any default contacts from the Responses page rather than from the Opportunity page to add the participants to the group specified in the opportunity.
- The default Response Follow-up Process assigns a task when someone creates a Response record. To develop this process more, see Working with Processes or contact Support. Anyone with rights to the Responses page can place or close a response. However, if a response is closed, the task assigned to the person responsible for the opportunity still displays active until they approve the task.
Response Fields
- Response Date
- The date the response was added.
- Opportunity
- The opportunity the participant is responding to.
- Participant
- The participant responding to the opportunity.
- Comments
- Additional information about the response. This field is available as a field on the Opportunity page of the Portal for respondents to complete.
- First Name
- The respondent's first name as they completed it.
- Last Name
- The respondent's last name as they completed it.
- The respondent's email as they completed it.
- Phone
- The respondent's phone number as they completed it.
- Response Result
- If the response is placed and there is a group in the Add To Group field, the participant is added to the group specified.
- Closed
- If set to Yes, the response no longer displays on any of the open views.
- Event
- This field is pre-filled if the response comes from the Opportunity Details Widget or the Connection Card Tool and the opportunity is linked to an event. Complete this field with any event that the participant should be added to once they are placed.
- Notification Sent
- If the Opportunity Response Notification email was sent, this will be set to Yes. The routine runs every 15 minutes.
Add Responses

Reassign a Response Record
- In the navigation menu, click .
- Open the Response record.
- Click Edit Record.
- In the Participant field, select the correct participant.
- Click Save.
- Click Close.
