SendGrid Troubleshooting

Missing Emails

If you sent an email but it doesn't display in the recipient inbox, the email may have been bounced, blocked, flagged as spam, or subject to some other form of suppression. You can find details for these suppressions in SendGrid.

For more details, see Suppressions Overview from SendGrid. Also see our information on how to avoid Spam filters.

Bounced Emails

SendGrid has a reporting feature to manage bounces, spam reports, blocks, and invalid emails.

Tip: You should regularly review bounces to remove or update undeliverable email addresses.

SendGrid Notifications

Leverage SendGrid notification options to alert the sender when you can't deliver an email. There may be another email address on file that you can use.

Opt-Outs

We strongly recommend you manage your mailing lists using the Subscribe to Publication and My Subscriptions Widgets and Publications in the Platform.

CAUTION: If you configured Unsubscribe Groups or Unsubscribe Links in SendGrid (commonly in a custom footer), the system blocks anyone who clicks those links from MinistryPlatform emails.

Google Analytics

Turning on Google Analytics with SendGrid can interfere with auto-login links and password reset links. The system adds an extra query-string (starting with an ampersand, &) to the URLs, which causes them not to work in the Portal. This means that, while the links display in the email that you sent, they won't direct to the correct Portal page when the recipient clicks the link.

Google Analytics adds additional parameters that look like this:

&utm_source=sendgrid.com&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=website

Google Warning Messages

Gmail has its own email filters and security that can trigger warning messages when a User's email address receives Item Notifications ("Platform Notifications" in the subject) from the User's email address. Review your SPF/DKIM records in DNS and ensure they are correct. See Google Help resources for more information.
