Donation Sources

Information on donation sources, AKA source codes, in the Platform, including instructions on how to set up a donation source.

Using Donation Sources (also referred to as source codes), you can see what prompted a person to pledge or give to your campaign. These sources are flexible and can be attached to any donation distribution. Examples could include a pew card, mailed letter, email solicitation, QR code, and so on.

If you partner with an online giving vendor that helps you track this, they may pass the information into MinistryPlatform with the pledge or donation.

Set Up a Donation Source

  1. In the navigation menu, click Lookup Values > Donation Sources.
  2. Click New Donation Source.
  3. For Donation Source, enter a name that indicates what prompted a pledge.
Tip: If you plan to send multiple communications as part of a campaign, you might set up a separate Donation Source for each communication (for example, Mailer #1, Mailer #2, and so on).
  4. If your online giving vendor uses a shorthand code for this source, enter the code in the Code field.
  5. For Description, include any additional information about this source.
  6. If needed, select which campaign this source is associated with.
  7. If you're ready to start tracking donations for this source, set Active to Yes.
  8. Click Save.

Once you set up a donation source, you can associate it with each new pledge or donation you record.

If a source is related to a particular campaign, remember to change Active to No when the campaign ends and you aren't accepting any additional pledges or donations.
