Volunteer Connect Assignments and Opportunities

Attention: *EA feature in testing*: This section is under construction while our wonderful Early Adopters try things out!

From the dashboard, volunteers can respond to any recent assignment requests, view their upcoming serving times, and sign up for available opportunities (if allowed).

Assignment Requests

When a leader adds you to a published schedule, it displays as an assignment request. You can accept the request if you plan to serve, or decline the request if you can't serve. Click View Details to see the event and the other scheduled volunteers.

The coordinator or leader can accept or decline an assignment on behalf of a volunteer. For example, if the volunteer sees their leader at church on Sunday and lets them know they will be there on Friday, the leader can mark the volunteer as Accepted.

If the coordinator or leader removes someone from a scheduled assignment, the volunteer is notified.

Upcoming Serving Times

As soon as you accept an assignment request, it displays as an upcoming serving time. If you won't be able to serve for that event, you can decline it.

After a serving time begins, it no longer displays on the dashboard.

Available Opportunities

When opportunities are available for your role(s), they display on your dashboard. You can view the schedule details and sign up.
Note: Opportunities are only available for schedules where the coordinator has enabled the Allow Volunteers to Sign Up option.

Once someone signs up for an open assignment, it no longer displays for others on their dashboard. Instead, they'll see a message that all opportunities have been claimed.

Notifications and Messages

Volunteers can receive notifications about their assignments or when opportunities become available.

  • When the coordinator publishes a schedule or edits a published schedule, any newly added volunteers will receive an email notification about their assignment(s).
  • If the coordinator publishes a blank or open schedule (and have allowed volunteers to sign up), any volunteers who have a role that matches an open assignment will receive an email notification.
  • Volunteers can accept or decline one or more assignments from the notification email, without having to sign in! The notification includes a link to view more details once they log in to Volunteer Connect.
  • Leaders can also send messages to one or more volunteers using the Send Message button at the top of any published schedule.
