Online Giving Initial Setup
Online Giving is a sensitive and powerful page, so proper initial configuration by a SPoC is essential.
Authorize.NET
Initial configuration requires an Authorize.net account. The API Key and API Transaction Code must be provided to your Implementation Manager or to Support, who ensure these values are placed in the Portal's configuration file.
When configuring your Authorize.net account, ensure the following items are set appropriately:
- The account supports e-check, and this functionality is turned on.
- The account supports Automated Recurring Billing, and this functionality is turned on.
- The account is not in test mode.
- You avoid any holds placed on transactions by requesting appropriate minimums for single and daily transaction amounts.
- Your allowed Payment Types are set appropriately (e-check, debit card, credit card, AmEx, Discover, Visa, MasterCard.
Configuration Settings
- PORTAL, OnlineGivingFromEmail: The email addresses that all emails related to online giving are sent from.
- PORTAL, OnlineGivingEmailSubject: The email subject that all emails related to online giving have.
- PORTAL, OnlineGivingUrl: The URL to redirect users to for payment. If no URL is entered, an error message will display on the payment page directing users to the church website.
- COMMON, defaultPaymentTypeID: The ID of the Payment Type Credit Card (found in ).
- COMMON, ACHPaymentTypeID: The ID of the Payment Type Check (found in ).
Congregations
Go to
and ensure that the appropriate Congregation(s) have the Available Online field set to Yes. Note that this setting affects other pages of the Portal as well (e.g., Event Calendar).Programs (Designations)
- Congregation: Must be a Congregation that has Available Online set to Yes.
- Start Date/End Date: Today's date must be between these dates.
- Tax Deductible Donations: Must be set to Yes.
- Allow Online Giving: Must be set to Yes.
- Online Sort Order: Use as needed if multiple Programs are available online.
To show a Program under all Congregations, it must be in your Congregation designated in the Configuration Setting COMMON, GlobalCongregationID.
The Program field "Allow Online" is no longer in use on this page.
Sharing Church-wide Programs
If you have a "church-wide activities" congregation for general funds, these Programs can be automatically added to each Congregation's drop-down list. To do so, contact Support and provide the Congregation Name and ID of your church-wide Programs.
Email Receipt
A receipt is always emailed after completion of the online giving process. Review the email, and edit it as needed on the Portal Admin page.
Cards Resource File
Ensure the list of credit cards you accept is accurate based on your Authorize.Net settings. Do so on the Credit Cards Resource File.
