View Rules

View Rules style Record Facts, and you can apply them to any View in the Grid layout. This is a great way to visually emphasize important information, indicate missing information, and keep staff up-to-date without requiring a deep dive into the Platform.

Record Facts are curated collections of key information pulled from around the Platform to summarize and visualize what you want your users need to see at a glance. Styling Record Facts makes the visual representation powerful.

The Platform comes pre-loaded with a variety of compelling styled Record Facts, and you can edit them or create your own for both Pages and Sub-Pages. You need edit rights to System Setup > Page View Rules to customize your record facts on Pages, and you need edit rights to System Setup > Subpage View Rules to customize your record facts on Sub-Pages.

  • Formatting: An advanced user with edit rights to Page View Rules can format Record Facts without any JavaScript knowledge.
  • Conditions: A power user with edit rights to Page View Rules and JavaScript knowledge (or a willingness to learn JavaScript) can create conditional View Rules.

Add a Page View Rule

Ready to make those facts gorgeous? You can customize your Record Facts on Pages and edit rights.
Note: You can also create View Rules directly from the View Rules tab on the Page or Sub-Page View.
  1. Identify or create your View. You must have a View before you can have a View Rule.
  2. In the navigation menu, click System Setup > Page View Rules.
  3. Click Page View Rule.
  4. Make your selections.
  5. Click Save.

Customize Record Facts on Sub-Pages

  1. Identify or create your View.
  2. In the navigation menu, click System Setup > Sub Page View Rules.
  3. Click Page View Rule.
  4. Make your selections.
  5. Click Save.

View Rules Fields

Note: View Rules should always contain mutually exclusive conditions (for example, green if Member OR blue if Faithful Non-Member). If a field meets the condition of multiple, overlapping View Rules, then multiple Record Facts display. To avoid this, create View Rules that do not overlap.

Example of a blank View Rule record

View
The View that you're assigning rules to. To style Record Facts, the View is a Facts View, but any View can have View Rules.
Note: The View must have a field list for View Rules to work.
Field Name
The specific column the View Rule applies to. If the column has an alias, refer to the alias.
Condition
The conditions to apply this formatting. This must be expressed in JavaScript using {value} token and is evaluated as "true" (formatting applied) or "false" (formatting not applied).
Text Color
A hex code or color name for text color. If blank, the text is white.
Background Color
A hex code or color name for background color. If blank, the background is gray. Want to match new background colors to the provided Record Facts? Check out our handy chart.
Image Name
The name of the Font Awesome icon you want to display, using this format: "fa-[image name]".
Note: Be sure to use the version 5 Font Awesome library.

Show Percentage
When set to Yes, this value styles as a percentage. If you also define the background color, the percentage displays with a fill bar.
Note: The percentage value itself calculates in the View. See Record Facts for more information.
Show Label
When set to Yes, the column name displays before the column value. If the column is an alias, the alias displays as the label.
Format As
Select the applicable format type for Record Facts you want to make clickable:
  • Color: If selected, your View displays a color box for the selected hex code. You can see an example of what this looks like on System Lookups > Chart Colors.
  • Email: If selected, your email provider launches when you click email addresses from desktop or mobile devices.
  • Phone: If selected, your phone application launches when you click phone numbers from desktop or mobile devices.
  • Blank: Leave this field blank if you don't want to format your Record Facts as one of the other options.
