Impersonate Users

A trusted staff member with permission can log in to the Platform as another user.

Use this feature to help a Platform User troubleshoot issues, provide training, set the appropriate Security Roles, take specific actions on a User's behalf (like completing Tasks or adding charts to a dashboard), and more.

Note: When you impersonate another User, any Tools you use are based on your permissions, not the permissions of the person you're impersonating. So, for example, if you use the Transfer Selection Tool, the selection transfers to YOUR page, not the page of the person you're impersonating.
Important: Bestow the ability to impersonate other Users with care. This is typically reserved for SPoCs or other high-level Users.

Initial Setup

To access this feature, a SPoC must set the Can Impersonate field to Yes on the appropriate User record.

Impersonate a Platform User

  1. Click your user account photo in the upper-right corner.
  2. Click Impersonate.
  3. In the Impersonate As modal, enter the name (Last Name, First Name) of the user you want to impersonate.
  4. When the correct user name displays, click it in the list.
  5. Click Impersonate.
Once your screen refreshes, you are logged in as the other user. You'll see a green outline around the section that shows what the other user would see in MinistryPlatform.
  6. When you're finished impersonating, click Stop at the top of the outlined section.
Once your screen refreshes, you are logged in as yourself again. You'll no longer see the green outline.
