Get a Maps API Key

You must have a map provider API key for CloudServices geocoding and distance and drive time calculations. If you're ready to use these powerful tools, set your maps API key to get started!

Currently, there are two options for map provider: Microsoft Azure or Bing. If you are an existing Bing customer and already have an account, you can continue to use Bing until your license expires. If you do not have a Bing account and or want to use these features without interruption, you'll need to create an account with Azure.

Here's how to get an Azure API account and key. If you already have a Bing API key, skip to Add Your Maps API Key and set your maps provider.

  1. Create an account with Microsoft Azure.
Note: Azure Maps is a pay-as-you-go service and requires a credit card. That said, Microsoft offers the Azure Maps service for free up to certain monthly amounts. Check out their Purchase Options for details. You can start for free but will eventually need to move to the pay-as-you-go account in case you exceed the monthly allowances.
  2. Once you create an account, go to the Azure Portal.
  3. Log in, and following any necessary prompts to finish setting up your account.
  4. Search for "Azure Maps". You may need to create an Azure Maps account resource.
  5. Go to your account settings, and locate your authentication details. Copy the Primary Key value to your clipboard. This will function as your map API key in MinistryPlatform.

Add Your Maps API Key

After you copy your maps API Key, add it to the Platform.
  1. Go to Administration > Configuration Settings.
  2. If you're using Azure, set your maps API key. (If you're using Bing, you've already completed this step.)

    3. Paste your API Key into the Value field.
Tip: Be sure there are no spaces before or after your API Key.
