11.0B Release

If you're part of the Preferred Client Program, you can download the latest desktop version in the Client Portal.

PDS Ledger/Payroll 11.0B, released for desktop and OnDemand 1-24-23, offers the following enhancements.

New and Improved Features

Tip: The tax updates are now available to download. Check the Client Portal to run the web process, or use the prompt in PDS to run the automatic process.
Tax Updates
  • We made required changes to federal and state tax tables for 2023. We'll continue to update state tables as we receive them.
Note: Some states require program changes, as noted in the tax table documentation, under State Tax Table Information. Please check your state(s) before loading the tax table update.
  • When filing for the state of Iowa, an error was displaying. That has been corrected.

  • Visit the IRS website for more information on tax changes. For help on PDS tax procedures, see 2024 Tax Information.

Tax Form Updates
  • We updated the following forms for use in 2023: W-2, 944, 1094/1095, 1096, 1099-NEC, and 1099-MISC.

Quick Emails and Text Messages
  • Create emails and text messages more easily using the new navigation item. Under Payroll, in the Employee section, click Quick Emails/Text Msgs.

  • From here, you can send an email or text message based on your needs:
    • Simple Email - Best for a quick, basic message; for example, a quick update to your employees.
    • Advanced Email - Select a template to use or create your own. Include images and formatted text for a more formal look; for example, a newsletter to employees.
    • Text Message - Quickly communicate via text. You must have text message providers set up with phone type keywords. Go to File > Setup > Email & Text Setup, and select the providers you need on the Text Message Provider Setup tab. Then, make sure each record you want to text includes one of the text provider phone types for the individual's mobile phone number.
  • Send your message to just the current record you came from (if they have an email or text phone number listed), or you can select a group of people to send to. If you plan to use this message again in the future, you can select Save as a Report.

  • You can also create emails or texts for vendor and income source records, as long as they have an email address or phone number designated for texting. In the relevant Reports window, click Add, select Letter/Email/Text, and select an option.

Emailing from PDS using Gmail
  • If you use a Gmail account to send emails from your PDS program, you must set up an App Password with Google. This security feature, which is required by Google, ensures that your Gmail account is used safely. App Passwords do not expire on a regular basis, but if you change your Google password, you must set up a new App Password at that time.

  • We have a help topic with steps on setting up an app password, and we thought it would be helpful to link to that topic within PDS. That way, you can get to the steps you need, when you need them! In your Email Server Setup window, click Set Up an App Password for Gmail to open the help topic. You will only see this link if your server includes "gmail.com".

Corrections

We fixed the following issues that affected some of our customers:
  • HTML emails that were created in Version 10 were not displaying after upgrading.
  • If you downloaded a Budget Planning worksheet in Open Office (.ods) format then used Excel (.xls) format to edit the file, Excel was changing the periods in account numbers to underscores. This prevented the import from working correctly.
  • Sometimes, an error displayed when going to Income > Enter Deposit or after clicking Add a New Cash Receipt in that window.
