Linking in PocketPlatform

Request Universal Links

Learn about universal links that open a PocketPlatform screen if the person has the app installed or open a fallback webpage if the person doesn't have the app.

What is a universal link? Universal links let you add a single link on your website, in an email, in a text message, or in a QR code that will:
  • Open directly to a specific screen inside your app, if the user already has the app installed on their device.
  • Or, if they don't have the app installed, take them to a page on your organization's website instead.

This means you can use one link everywhere without worrying about whether someone has the app or not.

Note: There are a few limitations to be aware of. For iOS devices (like iPhones), universal links only open your app when tapped from Safari, the iOS Mail app, or the iOS Camera app (when scanning a QR code). Tapping the link from inside another app's built-in browser (like Facebook or Instagram) will generally NOT open your app, even when everything is set up correctly. However, it will show your fallback webpage instead. Android devices behave similarly, although the exact list of supported apps may vary by device and app version.
  1. Contact Support.
  2. Let them know which of the link types you'd like to use: Events, Groups, Opportunities, and/or Giving.
  3. Provide the corresponding page URL(s) on your organization's website to use as the fallback destination for visitors who don't have the app installed.
    This might be the webpage where you have your Event Details widget, the webpage where you have your Opportunity Details widget, or the webpage where donors can give.
Once Support completes the configuration, you can use universal links on your website, in emails, in text messages, or to create QR codes.
  1. Format your links.

    Each church has its own web address for these links that's based on your organization's unique slug. Replace "yourchurch" below with your assigned slug. Also replace "EVENT_ID", "GROUP_ID", or "OPPORTUNITY_ID" with the numeric ID fo the specific record you want to link to. (Giving does not require an ID.)

    • Opportunity Detail – https://yourchurch.api.pocketplatform.io/universal-links/opportunities/OPPORTUNITY_ID
    • Giving – https://yourchurch.api.pocketplatform.io/universal-links/giving
  2. Insert your formatted link where you want people to use it.

When someone clicks or taps the universal link you created and they have your app installed, the link opens directly inside the app to that exact event, group, opportunity, or giving screen. If they've previously logged in to the app, they'll already be logged in when they land on that screen, making it easier for them to sign up, register, or give.

When someone clicks or taps the universal link you created and they don't have the app, they are taken to the page on your organization's website that you've designated for that type of content.
