Create a Thumbnail with Affinity

Use Hannah's handy templates to create a thumbnail with Affinity, then attach it to your video in Vimeo.

Note: This assumes that you've already uploaded a video to Vimeo.
Hannah created templates that we can use in Affinity to create thumbnails for our videos. We no longer use upper and lower text and have simplified our thumbnails to just display the name of the feature. Follow these steps to create your own template(s) if necessary.
  1. Download the thumbnail template for your product.
In Affinity:
  1. Click File > Open.
  2. Locate your downloaded template and double-click it.
  3. Click the Move Tool in the left menu (it looks like a black cursor).
Tip: You can also press [V] on your keyboard to select the Move Tool.

  4. Click View > Snapping.
  5. Select Enable Snapping. Then, click Close.
  6. Click the text on the lower line.
  7. Using the upper text in the thumbnail template as a guide, move the lower text up until you see the following:
    • A vertical, green line that's aligned with the first letter of both texts.
    • A horizontal, red line striking through the middle of the text. This indicates the center of the thumbnail.

  8. In the Layers tab on the right, click the gray dot within the layer containing the upper text to Toggle Visibility.
  9. Double-click the visible text and change it to the video's title (e.g. the feature your video is about).
  10. Click File > Export. Keep the default settings.
  11. Click Export.
Now, you're ready to apply your new thumbnail image to your Vimeo video!
In Vimeo:
  1. Open your video.
  2. Click Manage.
  3. Click the plus sign beside Thumbnail.

  4. Upload the file you exported earlier.
    Your change is saved automatically.

Your thumbnail now displays when you embed your video in the Help Center.
