Requests to Leave a Group

Group participants can't remove themselves from a group. When someone asks to leave, a group leader or an administrator takes them off the roster.

Only a group leader, an administrator, or another user with permission to update groups can remove someone from a group. This keeps each group's roster and attendance history accurate, and it's why a congregant who's no longer active in a group can't simply delete it from their own list.

What the Congregant Sees

In the Connect App, a congregant who wants out of a group is directed to contact the group's leader — usually by opening the group, clicking the Info tab, and chatting the leader from there. If the group has no leader listed, they're told to contact an administrator at your church instead.

To send someone the steps, share Leave a Group.

What You Do

Remove the person from the group the same way you'd remove anyone else. When you confirm, you choose whether to keep their group history.

If the person is staying at your church but moving to a different group, Move Someone to Another Group instead of removing and re-adding them.

Tip: If a congregant asks to leave because they're getting too much email or too many notifications from the group, they may not need to leave at all. They can change how often the group contacts them. See Manage Notification Settings.
