Enroll in Realm Text Messaging

Subscribe to a texting plan and configure your settings so your organization can start sending texts.

Before you begin, have the following on hand:

  • Your organization's EIN (Employer Identification Number). This is required by the Campaign Registry, the federal agency that oversees commercial texting. If your organization does not have an EIN, you must obtain one before enrolling.
  • A website URL for your organization. Social media pages are not accepted.
  • Your 501(c)(3) documentation. The information you enter in the application must match this documentation exactly.
  • The name, title, email address, and phone number of the person completing the application.

Realm guides you through selecting your setup options, choosing a texting plan, and completing your Campaign Registry application. After submitting your application, allow 5–10 business days for approval. Once enrolled, you can return to the Text Messaging page at any time to update your settings or review usage information.

  1. In the top-left corner, click your site name then Realm. Then click Communications > Text Messaging.
  2. Click Enroll Now.
  3. In the Texting ID field, enter an identifier for your organization.

The Texting ID is required by the Campaign Registry and appears at the beginning of every outgoing text message. We recommend a short abbreviation of your church name (for example, FPC or LBC). Because the Texting ID is included in every message, it counts toward your character limit. A shorter ID leaves more characters available for your message content. You can change the Texting ID later in your settings.

    Text ID Examples

Text IDs are familiar to most people who receive texts from their favorite shopping experiences or utilities. They are included with every one-way text to tell the recipients who the text is from.
  4. Under User Permissions, select at least one staff user or group that can send texts on behalf of your organization. You can add others at any time.
  5. Click Next to proceed to Step 2: Choose a Plan.
  6. Select the texting plan that best fits your needs, then click Next.

The base plan includes 400 texts per month. Additional plans with higher monthly limits are available. You can change your plan at any time after enrollment.

  7. In Step 3: Complete Your Application, fill out all required fields. Helpful guidance is available both on-screen and within the application itself.
CAUTION: Enter your information exactly as it appears on your 501(c)(3) documentation. Discrepancies can delay or prevent approval.
  8. Submit the application.

Your application is sent to the Campaign Registry for review. Carriers perform automatic and manual checks as part of the approval process, which typically takes 5–10 business days. You can check back on the Text Messaging page at any time — a status update will be posted as soon as it is available.

After your application is approved, complete your setup by configuring additional individuals, groups, or teams that can send texts, then invite your congregation to opt in:

  1. Enable One-Way Texts
  2. Invite Others to Opt in to Text Communications
