Brother Wireless Printers

Mac Installation

A list of steps to take before you begin using your Brother Wireless Printer with macOS.

Before you start the installation process, make sure you have the following:

  • Admin name and password
  • Service Set Identifier (SSID)
  • Wireless network password or network key
  • IP address

Download the Wireless Setup Wizard

This task provides instructions for downloading and installing the Wireless Setup Wizard for Mac, ensuring the printer is ready for use.

  • You must have administrative rights to download and install software on any computer this equiment connects to.
Download the printer's setup wizard for Mac.​
  1. Visit the printer's download site.
  2. From Select OS Family, click Mac.
  3. From Select OS Version, click the correct option.
    Note: If you aren't sure of your version, click How to identify your operating system.
  4. On your Mac, click Search.
  5. Under Utilities, click Wireless Device Setup Wizard.
    CAUTION: Make sure you select the wizard and not Printer Driver (under Drivers).
  6. Select Agree to EULA, then click Download.

Install Printer Drivers

This task provides instructions for downloading and installing printer drivers for Windows or Mac, including steps for setting up the software and configuring the printer connection.

  • Download the latest printer drivers for Mac.
  1. Click Finder > your computer name > Downloads.
  2. In the Downloads folder, select BrotherWDSW.
  3. Double click BrotherWDSW.pkg.
  4. Click Continue > Continue for Software License Agreement.
  5. Select Agree, then click Install.
  6. Enter the Admin Name and Password, then click Install Software.
  7. Double click the correct folder, and select Setup Wizard.
  8. Make sure you have a USB cable ready to use, and click Yes, I have a USB cable to use for installation.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Make sure you have the SSID/ESSID and network key. Click Checked and confirm to continue.
  11. If the computer doesn't have Java SE 6, click Install. You must have Java SE6 installed to continue installation. If you're not sure what version of Java you have, this site will tell you.
  12. Click OK for installing 1 item, then click Next.
  13. Connect the USB cable from the printer to the computer, and click Next.
  14. If there is more than one network, a network list displays. Select the correct network, then click Next.
  15. Enter the network password, and reenter it to confirm.
  16. Click Install Software.
  17. Do one of the following:
    • To let the system find the IP address, click Next.
    • To enter a static IP address with subnet, click Change IP Address.
  18. Click Close.
  19. Disconnect the USB cable.
  20. Click Finish.
