Image Optimization

Tips to optimize the images on your label sets.

For the best printing results, follow these guidelines:
  • Use small images. Have your image size as close to printed size as possible. The ideal size is 24 to 100 pixels for width or height. Larger images slow down printing.
  • Use black and white images, not color or grayscale.
  • Encode and embed images (rather than link them).

Encode Images

You can add logos and images to your label using HTML with a base64 encoded image.

You should optimize images before you encode them. The goal is to reduce the file size as much as possible before you encode.

  • Use black and white images, not color or grayscale. If using a photo editor, true black and white is called "bitmap". Try different dithering methods to get the result you like.
  • Downsize the image before you export. Aim for 100 pixels on the longest side.
  • Use a PNG or GIF unless a JPG is smaller in file size. These formats usually result in smaller files for black and white images.
  • Check your work. A great file size is 10K. A file size of 100K is within reason, but you should try to get it smaller. A file size of 500K is too big.
  1. Go to a website that can convert your image into a base64 encoded URL, such as https://www.base64-image.de/.
  2. Upload your image.
  3. Convert your image to code.
  4. Copy the provided data string.
  5. Check your work.
    • If the data string is over 10,000 characters, you'll have to try again. Start with the tips on Image Optimization.
    • If the data string is under 10,000 characters, you can then embed the image.

Embed Images

  1. In the Check-In Suite Admin Console, click Label Sets, and select the label set.
  2. Select the label.
  3. Click the HTML Source View button to switch the label editor into an HTML editor.
  4. Add the code that you copied after encoding the image into the HTML.
  5. Click Save.
