Pricing in Product Documentation
This concept explains why pricing is not included in ACST product documentation, outlining the strategic reasons and directing customers to contact sales for pricing details.
Pricing is not included in the ACST Help Center or in-product UX copy. Customers should be encouraged to call our sales number for pricing. Writers should reference this number with the conref: u_global_pricing.dita. We have several pieces of content reuse available for insert into any document where pricing would otherwise be explained.
This is an example of u_global_pricing.dita in use: For pricing, call 1-800-736-7425.

Pricing is generally considered a function of Marketing and Sales. Including it may blur the lines between these functions. Note: If items are purchased through sales vs self-service, Marketing does not publish pricing on the website.
-
Process Maturity - Our internal processes for communicating pricing changes lack the scope needed to ensure accuracy in product documentation.
-
Oversimplification Risks - Including pricing in documentation could lead to oversimplified information that fails to account for custom pricing, billing exceptions, and promotional campaigns, potentially complicating the sales process.
-
Competitive Disadvantage - Publicly available pricing information could be used by competitors to undercut our offerings, reducing our market competitiveness.
This decision is supported by a 2024 Request for Executive Decision and the Pricing Committee. UX Content can find all mentions of pricing here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17JM44slESsSHjX-IChG-pNdA96RlCBYIEEjchvq9Jio/edit?gid=0#gid=0
