Sharing or Posting Links TO Portal Content

Browse recommended practices for sharing or posting URLs with other departments or in various content locations. Most of these come from a "lessons learned", so feel free to add your lessons learned here.

In content management, resource ID's function much like a redirect. The ID redirects the browser to the actual article. The value in using a resource id is that, long term, this avoids breaking a URL when content is moved or renamed. This happens all the time in our world because our focus is on long-term management of information that changes very frequently. When the UTM was added, it created a redirect on top of a redirect. A dynamic portal functions differently from a traditional website, and it is not designed to handle this. Their recommendation is that if we must add a UTM, use the normal URL and test it with the UTM attached. This should work and because Marketing content usually has a shorter life-span than product content, we believe this would serve both purposes. If Marketing is linking to something with a longer shelf-life, use the resource id link, but omit the UTM. Heretto has logged a feature request, but it is lower in priority in their current backlog unless we want to pay for custom programming. I don't feel that's necessary at this point.
