Resolving Access Violation During W-2 Extract File Creation

This troubleshooting guide provides a solution for an access violation error that occurs during the creation of a W-2 extract file in any version of the Payroll product. The error is typically caused by an employee having a blank or invalid address. The solution involves updating the employee's address in the system.

When creating the W-2 extract file, an access violation displays.

  • Products affected: Payroll

  • Versions affected: Any

This occurs when an employee has a blank or invalid address. To resolve this, update the employee's address.

  1. Under Manage Records, click on the Records tab.
  2. In the drop-down list, select Add/Edit Employees and click Go.
  3. Select the employee whose address is blank or invalid, then click Edit.
  4. On the Addresses tab, edit or enter the address.
  5. When finished, click OK.
