Communication By Text
Many churches and parishes prefer to communicate with members through text, also known as SMS.
To Start Receiving Texts
If your organization uses texting as a communication channel, you can opt in by texting START to its assigned 10-digit texting number. Churches typically share this number in bulletins, on their website, in the Connect App newsfeed, or through other communications.
After you opt in, you receive a confirmation message.
If you previously opted out, you can re-subscribe by texting UNSTOP to the same number. Every outgoing message includes the organization's texting identification so that you can easily identify the sender. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies.
Alternatively, your church may send you an opt-in email invitation from its church management system. The email contains a time-sensitive link to a hosted consent form at onrealm.org. On that form, you can confirm your mobile phone number, choose the types of messages you want to receive (SMS alerts and notifications and/or promotional SMS communications about upcoming events), and check a box explicitly agreeing to opt in.
The form also presents the Privacy Policy andTerms of Use, states that message and data rates may apply, explains that message frequency may vary, and provides STOP and HELP keyword instructions. After you submit the form, you receive a confirmation text verifying your opt-in status.
To Stop Receiving Texts
You can opt out at any time by replying STOP, and you can text HELP for assistance.
Good to Know
While most communications by text are brief, if you receive text message that exceeds the allowed number of characters (FCC regulations), the text will still display on your mobile device, but will also contain a link to your inbox where you can read the full message. If you have the Connect App on your mobile device, the app will open and display the full text. If not, you will be prompted to sign in.
