Chat With Your Group, Team, or One Person

Start a real-time chat with everyone in your group or serving team, with just some of them, or with one person.

  • Only available to group leaders.

  • Only available to team leaders.

Chat is for quick, back-and-forth conversation, like letting people know you're running late. Replies appear in real time. See Leaders: Chat for how notifications and archiving work.

  1. Start the chat.
    • With your group or team. Open your group or team, then click Send Communication > Start a Chat. The group or team name appears in the To field, so everyone in it receives the chat.

    • With one person. In the top-left corner, click your site name then Connect. Then click Communications > Chat. Then select the person you want to chat with.

  2. Optional: To chat with only some people in your group or team, click Message specific people, then click the X button next to anyone you want to remove.
  3. Enter your message.
    • To include a file or image, click the paper clip icon and select it.

    • To include an emoji, click the emoji icon and select it.

  4. Click Send.

The chat appears in the Recent column of your Chat page.

To manage a chat later, go to your Chat page and click the chat in the Recent column. From there you can:

  • Add someone. Click the ellipsis icon, select Add People, enter the name, then click Add. You can only add people to a chat that started with more than one person.
  • Mute or unmute notifications. Click the bell icon, choose how long to mute for, then click Mute. To turn notifications back on, click the crossed-out bell, then click Unmute.
  • Archive it. Click the ellipsis icon and select Archive. To find it again, click Recent and select Archived. Sending a new message in an archived chat moves it back to Recent.
  • Leave it. Click the ellipsis icon, select Leave Conversation, then click Continue. This removes the chat history for you and stops new notifications.
