Email Descriptions for Online Gifts

Information about emails that contributors may receive about their online gifts.

Giving online, especially when scheduling gifts to recur, is often a task we set and forget. This is a list of possible reminders and notifications for when gifts are successful or run into issues. See the related links on this page for ways to update a gift, if necessary.

Receipts

"We've received your gift"
This is a standard gift receipt. It contains the amount you gave as well as the fund(s) you gave to. For recurring gifts, you'll receive a receipt each time your gift succeeds.
"Thank you for your gift!"
This is a non-cash gift receipt. It's similar to the standard receipt, except it isn't applied to recurrences.

Notifications

"Your recurring gift is set up with..."
If you've scheduled a gift to recur, you'll receive a notification listing the fund(s) and amount(s) you've committed to giving. It also explains the recurrence's duration as well as your card information and how often it will be charged.
"Thank you!"
When your recurrence ends, you'll receive a short thank you message that displays the name of the fund your recurrence was applied to. You will also receive a separate receipt for this final gift.
"Changes have been made to your recurring gift to..."
If you or an administrator (with your permission) has made changes to your recurring gift, you'll receive a list of said changes. It's important to contact your ERROR - unresolved reference (productType) if these changes weren't authorized.
"Your card expires soon"
This is a reminder of a card's expiration date. If you've applied an expiring card to any recurring gifts, this email lists all gifts to funds that will be placed on hold if it expires.
"Changes have been made to your payment method for..."
When a card company updates a payment method, we notify you with the card's information as well as the changes that were made to it. Nothing needs to be done on your end. All recurring gifts associated with the card are updated automatically.

Errors

"Your card has expired"
Any recurring gifts associated with the card that's expired will be placed on hold.
"Your recurring gift was placed on hold"
If an issue prevents your most recent scheduled gift to process, this email alerts you that further gifts will be placed on hold for the selected fund.
"There was a problem processing your gift"
Sometimes, a gift may enter processing with ERROR - unresolved reference (vendorPayments) but is unable to be fulfilled. You'll receive an email with information about this gift and a note to review and update your payment method.
