Assign a 1099-MISC Account

Select the core accounts you use to pay invoices as 1099-MISC accounts.

  • You must have accounting administrator or the appropriate accounting specialist permissions to perform this task. See Accounting Roles and Permissions for more information.
The core accounts you assign to your 1099-MISC are the accounts you set up to pay invoices. Nonemployee compensation is not included here but on Form 1099-NEC instead.
  1. In the top-left corner, click your ministry hub then Accounting. Then click Period End > Tax Forms.
  2. On the Tax Forms tab, select the reporting year.
  3. Click Review Data beside 1099-MISC.
  4. On the Review 1099-MISC Accounts step, click Assign a 1099 account.
  5. Select the Core Account and the 1099 Box associated with that account.
  6. Review all core accounts carefully, and assign more 1099 accounts if necessary.
  7. Click Save.
    Tip: Before you continue, you may want to remove a 1099-MISC account.
  8. If all information is correct, click Next step: Review 1099-MISC Totals.

Remove a 1099-MISC Account

If a 1099-MISC account is no longer needed, remove it from the list.

  1. In the top-left corner, click your ministry hub then Accounting. Then click Period End > Tax Forms.
  2. On the Tax Forms tab, select the reporting year.
  3. Click Review Data beside 1099-MISC.
  4. Click the ellipsis icon beside a 1099 account, and select Remove.
    Tip: Before you continue, you may want to assign a 1099-MISC account.
  5. If all information is correct, click Next step: Review 1099-MISC Totals.

Assign a 1099-MISC Vendor

Assign vendors who receive a 1099-MISC at the end of the year.

  • You must have accounting administrator permissions to perform this task. See Accounting Roles and Permissions for more information.
  • Set up your 1099-MISC accounts.
1099 vendors are individuals outside of your staff that you pay $600 or more throughout the year in rent, attorney's fees, other income, or $10 or more in royalties. Assign any vendors, except those who are paid nonemployee compensation, to this list.
  1. In the top-left corner, click your ministry hub then Accounting. Then click Period End > Tax Forms.
  2. On the Tax Forms tab, select the reporting year.
  3. Click Review Data beside 1099-MISC.
  4. Click Review 1099-MISC Totals, and select if you want to include 1099 purchases less than $600 and royalties under $10.
  5. Click Assign a 1099 vendor.
  6. Search the name of the vendor inside the field, and select the one you want to assign.
  7. Click Save. The 1099 Box and Amount columns will populate automatically after a vendor is selected.
    Tip: Before you continue, you may want to:
  8. Review all vendors carefully. If all information is correct, click Done.

Make a 1099-MISC Adjustment

Make a 1099-MISC adjustment if you need to correct the total paid amount for a 1099 vendor.

  • You must have accounting administrator permissions to perform this task. See Accounting Roles and Permissions for more information.
  • You must have 1099 vendors with amounts before you can make an adjustment.
  1. In the top-left corner, click your ministry hub then Accounting. Then click Period End > Tax Forms.
  2. On the Tax Forms tab, select the reporting year.
  3. Click Review Data beside 1099-MISC.
  4. Click Review 1099-MISC Totals.
  5. Click the ellipsis icon beside a vendor, and select Add Adjustment.
  6. Make any necessary adjustments, but keep fields the same if they don't need to change .
  7. Select whether or not you want to include the adjustment to the vendor's year-to-date (YTD) paid total amount.
  8. Click Save.
    Tip: Before you continue, you may want to:

Remove a 1099-MISC Vendor

If you no longer need or mistakenly set up a 1099 vendor, remove it from this list.

  1. In the top-left corner, click your ministry hub then Accounting. Then click Period End > Tax Forms.
  2. On the Tax Forms tab, select the reporting year.
  3. Click Review Data beside 1099-MISC.
  4. Click Review 1099-MISC Totals.
  5. Click the ellipsis icon next to a 1099 vendor, and select Remove.
